The organisation was unusually direct about who it was delivering to, and why.
We are delivering foods to those families who help well to do families in their farms, providing labor work, taking us from one place to another on Rikshaw. Today, they are starving due to national lockdown.
Nepal's lockdown began on 24 March 2020. For households paid by the day - farm labour, rickshaw pulling, construction - it ended income immediately, with no notice and no replacement. Food ran out before savings did, because there were no savings.
The distribution ran in Shivasatakshi, in Jhapa district, and the banner on the delivery vehicle names the partners: the ward office of Shivasatakshi Municipality, the Shivasatakshi Chamber of Commerce in Shivagunj, and a group of former students of Jan Adarsha Secondary School now living in the United States.
It is a small operation compared with the reconstruction work of 2015 and 2016, and the organisation did not pretend otherwise. It framed the deliveries as thanks owed rather than charity given.
