An American family pledges $200,000 in an uncle's name

Most of the money that rebuilt Sipapokhare came from Nepalis abroad sending it home. The largest single pledge did not.
In March 2016 the family of the late Keith DeFolo committed $200,000 to Mission Rebuild Nepal's rebuilding work in Sindhupalchowk. The organisation announced it as an act of trust placed by Stephen DeFolo, and gave the pledge its own section on the website.
The commitment carried through into the next phase of work. When Rajeshwori School at Sipapokhare was finished in August 2018, Stephen DeFolo was one of two donors the organisation named.
For an organisation less than a year old, running on wire transfers and volunteer accountants, a pledge of that size was a structural change. It was also a risk taken on the basis of published spreadsheets rather than a track record, because there was no track record yet.
